There are already interested bidders for the Daang-Hari project and it is expected to be awarded before the year-end.The Department of Education is also looking on PPP for the construction of more classrooms, he added."The respective Cabinet will be announcing the forthcoming PPP projects," he said.Lacierda also said that the government has instituted reforms so it can scrutinize projects in the pipe line while at the same time ensuring its speedy implementation.According to the government, projects that could still be included in the 2011 bidding list will be the 6.8-billion-peso ( 157 million U.S. dollars) New Bohol (Panglao) airport project, the 8.85-billion-peso (204.38 million U.S. dollars) LRT Line 2 East extension, the 83.25-billion-peso (1.92 billion U.S. dollars) LRT Line 1 South extension, the 4.14-billion-peso (95.61 million U.S. dollars) Puerto Princesa airport development project.
COLOMBO, Oct. 4 () -- Sri Lankan state employees will follow a physical fitness program from this week on the instructions of the country's President, the Sri Lankan Sports Ministry said on Tuesday. The aim of the program is to improve the physical fitness levels of all state employees, a spokesman at the Sri Lankan sports ministry told .He also said that employees working at state institutions will be educated on having a balanced diet in order to stay fit.An average Sri Lankan is not known to be obese as the daily diet includes rice and curry or bread as opposed to fast food enjoyed in most western countries. However, according to the Sri Lankan sports ministry, the physical fitness program has been seen as a requirement to supplement an improvement in the mental condition of employees. Most Sri Lankans work between 8-9 hours a day and while most private establishments operate even on Saturdays, state institutions operate only on weekdays. The Sri Lankan sports ministry said that the physical fitness training program will be conducted two days of a week and will be limited to one hour in the morning.A medical checkup will also be carried out on each state employee and a personal medical file will be maintained to monitor the physical condition of the employee, the Sri Lankan sports ministry added.

VANCOUVER, May 18 () -- China's Sichuan Airlines announced Friday it will start flying into Vancouver three times weekly from June 22, marking the Chinese carrier's first foray into the North American market. With the flights offering a stopover in Shenyang, the capital of the northeastern Liaoning province, Zhang Huiyu, Sichuan Airlines vice president international, said the new service would offer great choice to both Chinese and Canadian travelers as the first and only flights from North America to China's interior. The flights will operate Tuesday, Friday and Sunday via an Airbus 330 aircraft capable of carrying 245 passengers."Vancouver is the Asia Pacific gateway of Canada. Shenyang is a large international metropolis in northeast China. Chengdu is the transportation hub in western China. So in June this year Sichuan Airlines will build a golden air bridge to connect these three amazing cities," said Zhang. He added that the carrier, based in Chengdu, the provincial capital of China's southwestern Sichuan province, will considered daily flights in future based on passenger demand."(This route) it's not only important to Sichuan Airlines, it's also important to all the people from the western region of China. Because all the flights originate from Chengdu in the western part of China to Shenyang, which is northeast, it will provide a gateway to the students, immigrants and travelers to Canada."The carrier is entering an already crowded Vancouver market serviced by Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines. However, with Canada being granted Approved Destination Status (ADS) in June 2010 demand for flights to the country is rising. In 2011, its first full year of ADS, 242,000 Chinese travelers visited the country. The Canadian Tourism Commission is forecasting the number of Chinese arrivals to jump 21.3 percent this year, and 25.2 percent in 2013.James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, said aside from boosting tourism the increased flights provided greater choice for travelers and would leave a "significant impact on the economy.""The air industry is a critical part of Canada's economic health and I think air liberalization in the future and other opportunities are certainly something I know that YVR (the Vancouver airport), the government of Canada, all of us want to see those kind of partnerships taken to their full advantage to the benefit of all travelers," he said."Today's announcement of Sichuan Airlines coming here with the frequency that they are, with the openness that we have, I think Approved Destination Status means that we are going to be able to create more Canadian jobs through greater tourism, greater access and more opportunities. And also I think it is important for consumers to know that air liberalization means lower prices, more competition and better services, so I think it's a win-win all around for all markets."Liu Fei, the Consul General of China in Vancouver, said she hoped the new flight service would encourage more Canadians to visit China, adding the consulate was processing, on average, between 400 and 600 visas to the country each day.
NAIROBI, Dec. 9 () -- The Kenyan government and the UN have called for a speedy resolution of outstanding issues in the landmark peace deal which was signed between Sudan and South Sudan.Speaking during a meeting with Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki in Nairobi late Thursday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said there was need to resolve outstanding issues in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between Sudan and South Sudan, particularly the question of the disputed area of Abyei. "The Secretary-General underlined the importance of harmonizing the relationship between Sudan and South Sudan, including with the assistance of other countries in the region," said a statement which was issued after the meeting.Under the CPA, whose implementation has been a key priority of the government, Abyei enjoys a special status. This special status expired on July 9 and a security arrangement for the region was to be worked out that guarantee safety.Apart from the oil rich region of Abyei, the main outstanding issues of the CPA include conflicts in South Kordofan, Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile States. The Sudanese government has consistently refused to consider a referendum for Abyei, arguing that the Machakos Protocol had already closed that door, and Abyei must remain in the North. The full demarcation of the North/South border and that of Abyei has also not been concluded and agreements on post-CPA issues including citizenship and nationality, national debt, sharing of assets and resources are also not finalized.
