BRUSSELS, Dec. 14 () -- The European Union (EU) on Wednesday welcomed the progress made by Ireland in fiscal and financial sectors along with the country's structural reforms.Ireland has been committed to the terms of its bailout program, according to the fourth review released this year by European Commission, the executive arm of EU."So far this year, fiscal performance has been on target and the budget deficit for 2011 as a whole is now projected to be well below the 10.6 percent of GDP ceiling, as required in the program," the commission said in a report. The report thereby would pave way for the third installment of 4.2 billion euros (5.46 billion U.S. dollars) funds scheduled for January 2012.The 2012 budget of Ireland was also seen as a good signal, in particular its objective to reach the program ceiling of no more than 8.6 percent of GDP next year.Meanwhile, the report highlighted the recapitalization of the banking sector which was "substantively completed at a lower than expected cost to the budget," benefiting from private investor participation and burden-sharing with the holders of subordinated bank debt. The structural reforms to support job creation and growth by Irish government was proved successful with long-term cost of public service pensions is also being cut and legislative measures to enhance competition in the medical and legal sectors introduced. The seasonally adjusted industrial production in October registered the largest increase in Ireland as compared to September across the eurozone, recording a 6.6 percent rise.
TOKYO, March 26 () -- Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said on Monday during a parliamentary session that he will work with other leaders to urge Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to abandon its rocket launch plan.He said Japan will try to put pressure on DPRK together with more than 50 countries' leaders at the second Nuclear Security Summit held in Seoul.Meanwhile, Defense Minister Naoki Tanaka said during the session that he will issue an order soon to prepare to intercept the rocket if it falls within Japan's territory. The defense minister is considering moving ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 interceptors in Okinawa Prefecture and other areas. Tanaka also indicated that he is considering making arrangements to deploy PAC-3 in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The DPRK announced on March 16 it would launch an "earth observation" satellite, or the Kwangmyongsong-3, using a long- range rocket to mark the 100th birthday of late leader Kim Il-Sung.The satellite would be launched from a station in North Phyongan province between April 12 and 16, the DPRK's state-run Korean Central News Agency reported, citing a spokesman for the Korean Committee for Space Technology.
